Tanjiro confronts Kyogai, whose erratic attacks stem from a troubled past as a drum player. Despite injuries, Tanjiro manages to engage with him successfully. Later, Tanjiro encounters a conflict involving Zenitsu and a fellow Demon Slayer, highlighting struggles of trust and kindness within their ranks.
Kyogai, angered by Tanjiro's refusal to surrender, begins to attack erratically. He remembers his life as a drum player and composer, but his hobby was rebuked and mocked by others. Angered by the memories, he attacks Tanjiro more aggressively. Still injured, Tanjiro maintains his Water Breathing and successfully reaches Kyogai, decapitating him. As he fades, he hears Tanjiro acknowledging his Blood Demon Art, but adds that he can't be forgiven for his murders. Kyogai, touched by his words, cries as he dies, as someone had finally recognized his drum playing. He takes Kyogai's blood with a vial, giving the sample to Tamayo's cat who vanishes. Taking the siblings outside, he discovers Zenitsu, who had been thrown out of the house earlier, being kicked by the rogue Demon Slayer for protecting Nezuko's box. He reveals he had known all along Tanjiro had been carrying a demon in the box but perceived him as being so kind, there had to be a reason. Tanjiro defends him and attacks the rogue swordsman.
