Dragon Ball Z Kai is a recut and remastered version of Dragon Ball Z that retells Goku and his allies' major battles with tighter pacing, refreshed presentation, and most anime-original material removed. It is tracked separately from Dragon Ball Z because its episode numbering, broadcast history, edited structure, and later Final Chapters continuation form their own viewing path.
Dragon Ball Z Kai retells the core Dragon Ball Z storyline in a condensed television cut. The series follows adult Goku, Gohan, Piccolo, Vegeta, and the wider Dragon Team through the Saiyan invasion, the battles on Namek against Frieza, the Android and Cell conflicts, and the later Majin Buu storyline released internationally as The Final Chapters. It preserves the main progression of the original story while tightening the pacing, refreshing the presentation, and separating Kai's revised broadcast structure from the original Dragon Ball Z run. AnimeAnchor keeps Kai as its own canonical series so the original 291-episode Dragon Ball Z spine and the shorter Kai recut are not merged or confused.
Use this page as the source of truth for the TV spine first. The episode guide keeps official numbering clean, arcs give you story chunks, and movies stay in their own section so theatrical releases do not get mixed into the series order.
